A curious tea party
THE St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall is set to fill with colour and silliness when the church hosts a Mad Hatter’s afternoon tea later in the month.
Residents are being invited to the hall on 11 Church Street on Saturday, May 23 for an afternoon of fun, hat-themed trivia and sweet treats.
Parish of Camperdown and Holy Apostles Reverend Matthew Jones said the afternoon tea was open for anyone in the community to attend.
“We wanted to have the Mad Hatter’s afternoon tea party because a lot of people are telling me when they watch the news, there’s so much heavy stuff that it makes them feel sad and depressed – particularly for people living on their own,” he said.
“We thought we’d put on an event that got people together from the wider community to have a couple of hours of silly fun.
“They can wear any kind of hat they like, and it can be as ridiculous as they like – the more bonkers, the better.
“A group of ladies are getting together and baking biscuits for the afternoon tea.
“It’s very simple – a cup of tea or coffee, lots of yummy homemade biscuits and a quiz with around 40 questions relating to hats.”
The afternoon tea will run from 2.30-4.30pm, with the $15 entry price raising funds for the parish.
Rev Jones said there would be prizes on the day, with a focus on fun.
“The idea is to come along and have fun,” he said.
“We don’t expect to make a lot of money, but we hope to have a lot of fun and for people to be creative and silly with their hat designs.
“No-one needs to book in – we’ll find a seat for you if you turn up.”
