COLOUR, fun and laughter filled Camperdown’s IGA store recently for a Community Fun Day.

Over 150 people turned out for the day; store manager Ebony Marshall said they were expecting 40 people, which they saw in the first 10 minutes of the event.

Activities for the children including colouring pages, plaster painting, face-painting, snow cones, balloons, and show bags.

Adults could enjoy a beer tasting from Middle Island Brewing Company or have a sausage from a sausage sizzle run by the Camperdown Bowling Club.

Ms Marshall said the parent company of the store decided stores in the Ritchies chain were to have a community day.

“They had a list of ideas of what you could had. On that list is for a face painted, so we asked around and we found a lady from Cobden,” she said.

“The Bowling Club (did) our sausage sizzle because they’re one of the people who get some money (from our Ritches card) the show bags we do ourselves and give out to the kids.

“We’ve got helium balloons; we organized a helium tank, but that took a long time to get because not that many people had them around town.

“We’ve all just worked together, and my team have done little bits and pieces, and it’s all come together.”

Ms Marshall said the response to the day was positive.

“The kids had a ball,” she said.

“It was just a great day; there were no kids running around.

“They were all quite patient waiting for the face-painter and all that kind of stuff.

“It was a very successful day.”

Ms Marshall hopes to be able to run a bigger community day later in the year.
