A fun-gi day out

RESIDENTS are invited to Glenfyne Hall next Sunday to find out how to identify different fungi as well as learn about the history of the Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail.

From 2-4pm on Sunday, July 27, Glenfyne Hall will be abuzz with activity.

The fungi talk will commence at 2pm, followed by a history talk on the rail trail presented by Alan Kerr at 2.30pm.

Interested participants are encouraged to bring along a mushroom as Helen Langley, who will be presenting the talk on fungi, may be able to identify it.

Afternoon tea will be provided at 3pm and attendees are welcome to stay and ask as many questions as they may have.

Rail trail committee chair Pat Robertson said it was perfect time of year to look for fungi in the area.

“This time of year there’s always magnificent fungi along the rail trail, especially down towards Timboon,” she said.

“Helen is an absolute expert on identifying fungi so we will be in good hands.”

Mrs Robertson said the history talk will also involve the history of the railway itself, not just the rail trail, and she said she was grateful to both Heytesbury District Landcare Network and Corangamite Shire for making the event possible.

“Heytesbury Landcare received the Environment Support grant through the shire which has allowed us to run this event,” she said.

“This is the third event we’ve been able to run on the rail trail thanks to the grant.

“The first one we did in summer on edible weeds, and then another on bird identification.

“We’ve been very lucky getting experts to run these events.

“Previously we have run these events in the evenings, but as it is winter we decided on an afternoon tea in the warm Glenfyne Hall.”

No RSVP is necessary and attendees are encouraged to arrive at any time between 2-4pm.
