Last Sunday saw the women’s and men’s A grade final played at Mortlake in the morning.

For the women, last year’s champion Gertie MacDonald played 2023-24 champion Sandra Richie.

While the match was tight to start with, congratulations to 2025-26 women’s A grade champion Gertie MacDonald.

It was also a great effort by Sandra to make the final.

For the men, previous champion Dave McNicoll played the 2025-26 men’s 100 up champion, John “JT” Tanner.

From the outset, the match was always going to be a closely contested affair and spectators weren’t disappointed.

When one would get ahead, the other would claw back and towards the finish, Dave almost closed it out with a two, one ahead of JT.

On the last end, JT made it two shots back to him to take the win, 25-24.

Congratulations to the 2025-26 men’s A grade champion, John Tanner.

A fantastic effort by Dave McNicoll in the final.

Reports have said it was a very skilful match and the result could have gone either way.

Both Gertie and John now face other club A grade champions in the Western District Playing Area Champion of Champions Championship at City Memorial BC on Sunday, January 18.

Twilight bowls is already underway and any interested player (either as an individual player or a team of three), should contact the twilight bowls coordinator Scott on 0418 218 547 or come along Wednesday nights until mid-December.
