A helping hand for local causes
THE number of helping hands from Mortlake continuing to support the Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) Great South Coast has grown even further.

Team leader Neil Kelly said last Saturday’s session at Warrnambool replaced a postponed session earlier in the year.
“It was our biggest event yet,” he said.
“The conditions were perfect.”
Mr Kelly said more than 90 volunteers – including 20 volunteers from Mortlake – helped more than 40 participants from across the south west find their feet on the boards.
The Mortlake Cricket Club also donated $1200 from proceeds of their recent Over 50s cricket match to the DSA Great South Coast group.
Mr Kelly said the funding would contribute towards ongoing equipment and program requirements for the group.
“That money is going to be invaluable to us,” he said.
The club also contributed a further $300 towards mental health program Let’s Talk to support Mortlake P-12 College in running the project at the school following the match.
The contribution adds to the $1500 the club donated to Let’s Talk following their Over 50s match in 2017.
Cricket club president Simon Ritchie said the club aimed to always support local groups through the biennial fundraising match.
“Both of them are great causes,” he said.
