A little bit of everything
CORANGAMITE Arts is celebrating the diversity of different painting media through this month’s featured artist.
Camperdown’s Delyce England is the focus artist of the month, with works spanning both decorative plates and traditional canvas as well as oils, pastels and acrylics.
Mrs England said her subjects change depending on what she feels like painting at the time.
“Roses became my thing because a lot of people kept asking if I could paint a rose – I had to learn how to paint a rose and make it a bit easier for myself,” she said.
“I also went through a stage of decorative art, which is linked to folk art.
“A lot of people criticise folk art as not being very good, but I just think it’s fabulous and there’s a lot of skill in folk art.
“Now, because I’m getting older and losing skill in my fingers, I do easier things – I don’t do complicated things.
“I still like painting, even though age is catching up.”
Mrs England said one of her favourite things about the Corangamite Arts group was the friendships she has fostered with other artists in the area.
“When we first moved here just on 11 years ago, we went to the Courthouse to see if there were art groups so I could join in and meet new people,” she said.
“It’s a place to meet like-minded people and somewhere to talk – sometimes I don’t do much painting up here, I talk.
“It’s a friendly atmosphere.
“Courtesy of our president, we’re doing little workshops to involve everyone so they can learn a new skill or technique.
“Even though nearly everyone paints, they all paint in different ways to get their results.”
Corangamite Arts president Sue Hollingsworth encouraged residents to visit during the weekly sessions on Thursday from 10.30am-2.30pm to view the works.
Residents are urged to enter the Camperdown Showgrounds through the gate at 2 Leura Street.
