The occasion is among the many outings Aberlea residents have enjoyed since the addition of a new bus in 2023, which had been purchased thanks to fundraising efforts supported by the wider community.

Aberlea hospitality services manager and lifestyle coordinator Katie Hope was among the staff to join residents on their outing to enjoy the sights and sounds of Mortlake’s idyllic lake.

“We try and do outings twice a week with the bus, one of which we try to have an afternoon tea or a picnic when the weather is good,” she said.

“When we’ve got such a beautiful facility, we thought we’d get as many down as we could.

“All the residents are having a really good time.

“Our lifestyle girls do a wonderful job to accommodate this and we’re so thankful to our volunteer bus driver, Janette – she’s wonderful and does so much for us, so we’re really lucky.

“The funds for the bus were all raised though the community and it’s very much in use.”
