Accessible day spreads joy
THERE were smiles all around in Port Cambell recently with a accessible beach day held
Fifteen participants and their carers came from across the south west to Port Campbell’s Accessible Beach Day earlier this month for International Day of People with Disability.
Participants attended from Camperdown, Timboon, Colac, Warrnambool and surrounds.
Activities included surfing, beach wheelchair rides, all-abilities sports, as well as a panel discussion on access, inclusion and hidden disabilities.
The day concluded with a panel discussion and a presentation from the Port Campbell Accessible Beaches Project Initiative.
Participants expressed their pleasure in being able to take part, with some not having been in the ocean for decades.
Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club co-ordinated the event, with support from Corangamite Shire, Timboon and District Healthcare Service, Disabled Surfing Australia, Disability Sports Australia, Regional Sports Victoria and the Variety Club for making the day happen.
