CAMPERDOWN Bowling Club’s greens are back to being full of keen bowlers who are looking forward to the season.

The first two rounds at Camperdown have come and gone.

The honours of rolling the kitty and first bowl went to Pam and Barry Atchison on the morning of the grand final of the in-house challenge before the first round of pennant.

Division one played their first game at Apollo Bay.

Ron Cameron, Fred Salmon, Harry Van Someren and Ian Henderson had a tough game against Heath McLaren’s team, going down by sevenshots.

Luke Wright, Barry Atchison, Vicki Brebner and Jayden Brewer played Grant McLaren’s team and only went down by four shots.

Mark McDonald, Darren Coverdale, Stan Adeney and David Wilson played Trevor Higgins’ side and lost by nine shots.

Mathew Brewer, Peter Hassett, LudGungl and Maria Van Someren had a win against Mark Featherston’s team by two shots, so overall only going down by 18 shots but winning one rink. It was a great job away.

Division three welcomed Colac 4 to Camperdown and won all rinks 109 shots to 61.

Ron Simcox, Herm Brebner, Pam Atchison and Ray Bourke won by 18 shots against John Barrow’s team.

Tom Hose, David Coverdale, Max Rippon and Pip Roberston had a close game against Peter Rice and team, 18-16.

Les Pearson, Michael Nixon, Bert Sloetjes and Gerard Broderick won by nine shots against Alan Edwards and players.

Ron Absalom, Les Dorman, Gerard Noonan and Gordan Weller won by 19 shots against Geoff Turner and team. This great win put them on top of ladder for the first week.

In division four Camperdown has a combined side with Lismore to help their players have somewhere to play and also to get a game.

The first round saw five Lismore players and four Camperdown players get a game in; they lost by 18 shots, but won one rink.

Last Saturday five Lismore and five Camperdown players travelled to Cressy, unfortunately the combined side lost by 39 shots overall.

Being three players short gives the opposition a big advantage.

Keep your chin up and when all players are available you will have a win.

Division four will play top side Cobden 3 at home next week.

Division three had a bus trip to Lorne on Saturday.

The day was warm with the sun shining and a big 32 shots, three rinks win.

Ron Absalom, Les, Gerard and Gordan raced out of the blocks and won 33-5.

Tom Hose, David, Max and Pip had a great lead of 20-5 before the break, but only managed another four shots to hang on and win 24-20.

Herm Brebner, Pam, Ray and Noel were a draw on the second last end they then picked up a six to win 23-17.

Les Pearson, Michael, Bert and Gerard struggled all day but only went down 15/21.

Division three is on top of the ladder ahead of City 3, Cobden 2 and Simpson 2.

Next week Camperdown play second on the ladder City 3 at home.

Division one played City 1 at home in cold, windy and drizzly rain in a tight game that was very hard work.

Ron Cameron, Fred, Harry and Kelvin had a very tough battle against Trigger’s team to go down by 11 shots.

Luke Wright, Barry, Vicki and Jayden played Gary Morrissy’s team, led all day and won 22-16.

Mark McDonald, Darren, Stan and David played the experienced team of Rebecca, Ken Val and Pat who led all day until the 23rd end.

Macca’s team picked up three shots to hit the front by two, only to go down again the very next end and lose 24-26.

Burgers’ rink with Peter, Maria and Lud played Grant Gillespie, Jack, Andrew and Barry in a tight game 17-17 all on the 20th end.

Burgers team scored in the next five ends to win 28-17.

Camperdown won overall 95-91 shots and this win sees them fifth on the ladder, with a road trip next Saturday to Simpson.

The 100 up men’s and ladies club event was played over two days.

Eighteen players took to the greens with some tight games.

The quarter finals were between J. Barrows v K. Rundle, L. Pearson v M. McDonald, D. Coverdale v T. Hose, and R. Bourke v B. Wilson.

The semi-finals were K. Rundle v M. McDonald, (this match was a WO to K. Rundle), T. Hose v B. Wilson (a very tight game but B. Wilson won 100-96).

The grand final was between Kelvin Rundle- 32 handicap and Brad Wilson -22 handicap.

The scorecard showed it was a great game and by all reports, the crowd was treated to a very good display of drawn bowling.

Congratulations Brad Wilson who is the Club 100 up Champion for 2023/24 season.
