Advertising signage proposed for Manifold Street

A PLANNING permit has been submitted to Corangamite Shire Council for the installation of a double-sided advertising sign on Camperdown’s main street.

The sign, proposed to be located at 245 Manifold Street, would be erected by Gawk Outdoor on the same site as Camperdown’s Container Deposit Scheme reverse vending machine.

The application states the site consists of an area of 405 square metres and is serviced by driveways off the Princes Highway and Brooke Street.

“The road on which the subject site is located has a service lane on the northern side, which is separated from the main road by a wide median strip,” the application reads.

“This shields the subject site and the proposed sign from being prominent to the residential buildings that are located to the north-west of the subject site.

“These residential properties are located at least 120 metres away across a major road and service lane and obscured by established vegetation on median strips.”

The sign would consist of two 18.25 square metre display faces for advertising, with a permanent 0.27 square metre business identification sign on the skirting at the bottom of the sign.

The project is estimated to cost $25,000, with a decision on the permit to be made in the coming weeks.

The application outlines benefits of the advertising signage, including encouraging motorists to stop in town, attract visitors to the area, and using local contractors in the construction of the signage.

Gawk director Luke Course said works are expected to commence in November should the permit be approved.

“Once we obtain our town planning permit, it will take about eight weeks to get the site live,” he said.

“There will not be any traffic delays or impact on surrounding businesses – the on-site works are very minimal.”
