CAMPERDOWN’S Leura Oval may be a mighty drop punt from the MCG but Easton Wood is happy to find himself back in familiar territory.
The Western Bulldogs premiership captain has returned to Camperdown with his family while the AFL season is on lockdown and has made Camperdown’s home ground his temporary training base.
He has been training regularly to maintain his fitness for the game’s return after the Bulldogs season was placed on hold following their 52 point round one loss to Collingwood.
“It’s nice to be back home; I get to spend a bit of extra time with my mum and more time with my wife and my daughter Matilda,” Wood said.
“The silver lining to it all is you get that extra time with family so that’s nice but it’s certainly been an adjustment.
“I’ve got some gym gear here today (last Friday), for the first time. I went back to Melbourne to grab some stuff but I came down here a bit unprepared and didn’t have anything.
“I’ve just been trying to run and rely on my athletics background to do some body weight training to keep me fit so that when we get back to it we’ll be ready to go.”
The 160-gamer said he was unsure if and when football would return this year, but he wants to remain ready in the event it does despite the enforced lay-off and aspect of training alone being a “real challenge” for him mentally.
