Musical homecoming: Demby McKenzie is inviting residents to enjoy a variety show next Saturday.

Organiser Demby McKenzie said the idea came from the annual concerts he performs in Warrnambool with friends Matthew Lim and James Philpot – the other members of the trio ‘Seranata’.

“The biggest feedback that we got from Camperdown residents is ‘why don’t you do one for Camperdown’,” he said.

“Unfortunately, those two boys were unavailable for this one, but I decided to put on a similar concert for all the people in Camperdown who have supported me for so long – and will try and invite as many of my friends to come and sing in it as possible to create a variety concert for everyone.

“I hope to do it pretty regularly in Camperdown, Warrnambool and surrounding towns.

“This is a tester to see whether people actually like variety concerts still – I know they’re an old-fashioned thing, but I’m an old-fashioned person in many ways.”

Doors will open at the Theatre Royal, located on Bath Street, Camperdown, at 7pm for a 90-minute show.

Performing alongside Mr McKenzie will be family members Toby, Madidi and Nikki, as well as friends Sarah Lim, Paris Leveque, Esther Lim, Luke London and Tarrant Edwards.

Mr McKenzie said he felt the concert was going to be a “very exciting night”.

“I will 100 per cent claim that we have some of the best professional and amateur talent in Victoria,” he said.

“I’ve got some of my family members performing, some friends from Warrnambool, and I’ve just graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts and I’ve invited three friends from my graduating class to come sing – they all said yes.

“We always have a bit of a charity element to our concerts – this concert, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to bushfire-affected communities.”

Tickets are available online at www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1342795, or at Laffs at 163 Manifold Street.
