An interesting industry delights U3A members
A GROUP of University of the Third Age (U3A) Corangamite members learnt all about an interesting industry recently.
U3A Corangamite members went on a tour of the Ocean Road Abalone Farm in Port Fairy.
U3A Corangamite spokesperson Gary Kimber said the group went on a tour of the Ocean Road Abalone Farm in Port Fairy.
“Hosts Hamish and David took us through the complete stages of growing the abalone,” he said.
“We saw tens of thousands of abalone shells being nurtured in huge tanks.
“It’s an amazing industry, with the farm being only one of about 20 in Australia.
“It was a very long process and we could see why abalone is a delicacy with a high price in restaurants.”
