Anh Do draws big crowd

CAMPERDOWN’S Theatre Royal was filled with laughter and reflection as Australian comedian Anh Do brought his The Happiest Refugee live show to town last Wednesday.

The show was based on his autobiography of the same name.

Audience member Jason Shrubb said he enjoyed the show, which balanced Anh Do’s comedy with the reality of his upbringing.

“It was about his life from when he moved to Australia with his brother, mother and father at a young age,” he said.

“I sat upstairs, but downstairs was full.

“There were only a few spare seats upstairs.

“It was very good. I just wish they’d have more things like that in town.”

Eliza Smith, who also attended the show, noted the lack of empty seats and said the show had a good turnout.

“We’re very lucky to have it on our doorstep,” she said.

“His story is fascinating – what he’s achieved from what he came from, what he’s been through and all the awards he’s won as well.

“He said he gave back 40,000 books to disadvantaged children – he does give back to the community.

“I thought he was very interesting.

“Everyone was laughing – the ladies beside me were cracking up.”
