Charges laid following fatal collision

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred in Mortlake last week.

UPDATE:

MAJOR Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision in Mortlake last week.

Detectives charged a 26-year-old Penshurst man with dangerous driving causing death and failing to give way at an intersection.

He has been bailed to appear at the Warrnambool Magistrates’ court on December 20.

The charges follow reports a silver Toyota Hilux utility and a grey Holden Barina collided at the intersection of Castle Carey and Mortlake-Ararat roads at about 4pm on December 11.

The driver of the Holden, a 32-year-old Warrnambool man, died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, the accused man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

PREVIOUSLY:

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred in Mortlake last week.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Castle Carey and Mortlake-Ararat roads last Wednesday afternoon, December 11, to reports of the two-vehicle collision at around 4pm.

Emergency services arrived to find a silver Toyota Hilux utility and a grey Holden Barina had collided.

The driver of the Holden, a 32-year-old Warrnambool man, died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old Penshurst man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and detectives from Major Collision Investigation unit are attending the scene.

To date 279 lives have been lost on Victorian roads this year, just below the 283 lost the same time in 2023.
