BETTER facilities are on their way for Timboon P-12 students with the appointment of an architect to design the school’s important upgrade.

Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced Coy and Yiontis P/L would design the works to be undertaken at Timboon P-12 School.

The project will include installing shade sails and resurfacing asphalt tennis courts with artificial turf for staff, student and community use.

The Labor Government has provided $475,665 towards the upgrade through the 2020 Minor Capital Works Fund.

The Victorian Budget 2021/22 invests $20 million in the Minor Capital Works Fund to improve learning spaces as well as the condition and character of schools.

Schools have been allocated funding to fast-track priority projects under the Minor Capital Works Fund to improve learning environments as well as the condition and character of schools.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said in the past seven years, the Victorian Government has invested more than $10.9 billion in building new schools and more than 1700 school upgrades, creating around 13,500 jobs in construction and associated industries.

“We’re making sure every child can have a great education at their local public school,” she said.

“This is a great step towards delivering the state-of-the-art facilities that staff and students at this much-loved school deserve and that match the quality of teaching and learning.”

“Timboon families are a step closer to getting the great local school facilities their kids need to thrive and succeed.”

School principal Davin Reid welcomed the appointment of the architect for the project.

“We are very excited to continue the upgrade of the facilities at Timboon P-12,” he said.

“This will see a more flexible outdoor space that will be undercover and allow for our tennis courts to be a multi-purpose space with artificial grass for the school and the whole community to use.

“We are very excited to see a project we dreamed of come to fruition. It will continue the journey of providing an outstanding learning environment for the students at Timboon P12.”
