Art show makes a successful return
THE Terang Community Art Show made a successful return over the weekend after a lengthy absence.
THE Terang Community Art Show made a successful return over the weekend after a lengthy absence.
Terang Community Art Show co-organiser Margaret Moloney said she was “thrilled” with the high volume of visitors who attended.
“I’m really pleased to see the show back again,” she said.
“There were a lot of people at the opening despite the bad weather.
“People were wandering around and just talking, the auction went well and the judges were pleased with the quality of work.
“There has just been so much happening.”
Terang Community Art Show 2022 award winners were:
Best in show – Susan Sambel, watercolour;
Second overall – Ricky Schembri, pastel;
Third overall – Robyn Wallis, acrylic;
Highly commended – Joan Mahoney, pen and water colour, and Christina Dewater, photography;
Best student artwork – Elouise Meeuwisson (Year 1/prep), Sapphire Balcombe (Year 2/3/4), Zoe Hill (Year 5/6), Naomi Walter (Year 7/8), Chelsea McConnell (Year 9/10);
VCE Student Art Excellence Ward – Poppy Wakelin (pitt pastel, pencil on charcoal paper);
VCE Student Highly Commended Art Award – Ari Pugh (photographic collection);
Other student award winners were Charlotte Viney-Marlique, Mia Farrell, Bailey Brown, Riley Fleming, Blade Gilbert, Grace Clow, Hayden Clifford, Hannah Hill and Leah Pesay.
Glenormiston artist Jess Fowler took home People’s Choice Award for her acrylic piece ‘Benny, Joan and Gidget.’
Student Archibald award went toCharlotte Marlique.
Ms Moloney said she was delighted with the quality of work on display.
“I was really impressed with the students work,” she said.
“It’s just beautiful, and the kids really feel they have achieved something when they get an award.
“We’ve had a lot of people saying they were really impressed.
“We saw people coming from all areas because we’ve got works from Ballarat, Geelong, Ararat, Warrnambool, and local areas including Cobden.
“With so much diversity we’ve covered artists, students and crafts as well.”
Ms Moloney thanked the volunteers who had given their time, artists who had given their talents, members of the Terang Uniting Church for the delicious food and theawards sponsors.
“Most importantly the art show is the United Church working with Terang College to raise funding for students,” she said.
“The event achieves so many things; people can sit down and have a talk over a coffee, listen to the beautiful music and seewonderful art.”
