CAMPERDOWN Little Athletics Club has been recognised at the recent Little Athletics Victoria (LAV) awards.

The Camperdown club was nominated in and listed as a finalist (top three) in five categories.

Club volunteer Cindy McDougall took out top honours in the Centre Official of the Year award, while fellow volunteer Ross McIlveen was recognised with a service award from LAV which also paid tribute to his six years as a board member.

In accepting her award, McDougall paid tribute to her home centre for the opportunities given, to her family and to the western country region and Shane Bicknell his for faith and guidance.

“Officiating isn’t just about the rules, it’s also about the learning, the connections and the confidence,” she said.

“A centre is only as good as the support that you give your helpers to be their best. How you guide and support them is important because you never know what effect you could have on a person’s life.”

Camperdown centre’s Lauren Murphy was a finalist in the Emerging Coach of the Year award, while Krystal Roberts was nominated in Centre Volunteer of the Year and Kathy Hallyburton in the Coach of the Year category.

The club was also a finalist in the centre marketing award, which is based on improving centre marketing and engagement with athletes, parents, the local and wider communities.

“I am extremely proud of our club and all its officials for their award nominations,” McDougall said.

“As a centre we are proud that we have such passionate and important helpers to build our athletes into the fantastic group that they are.

“These awards recongised that while the children are the most important focus of centres, without volunteers our centres would not be the success that they are.”
