THE ladies of the Terang and Mortlake Health Service Hospital Auxiliary have raised thousands towards the purchase of new equipment.

The women raised $2333 at their Golf, Bowls and Croquet Night on Monday as the community rallied around the cause.

The funding will be used to help the hospital purchase a new operating theatre scope to advance surgical options through the health service.

Hospital auxiliary president Michelle Mackinnon thanked the community for its support.

“It was a fantastic night where everyone enjoyed themselves and complimented us on the food,” she said.

“We’ve been supporting the hospital for many years, and it is only with the support of the community we can do this fundraising.

“The fundraising can help to support the purchases of new equipment or pay for someone to get their license under the L2P program.

“It’s been ongoing for years and most years we raise anything from $5000 to $10,000 for the hospital.”

Terang and Mortlake Health Service chief executive officer Julia Ogden thanked the women for their ongoing generosity.

“We’re very fortunate to have the ladies of the auxiliary support the health service in such incredible ways each and every year,” she said.

“Without their contribution we would find it difficult to buy the new pieces of equipment we need; the pieces which support all of our community.

“The great thing about the auxiliary is it is always willing and able to support what we’re in need of, so the donations are always appropriate for what we’re working on.

“The current donation of the scope ties in beautifully with our strategic plans where we are looking to really advance and move forward with our surgical services.”

Terang and Mortlake Health Service nurse unit manager Liz Mioduchowski said the funding would assist in purchasing a new scope.

“This piece of equipment allows us to advance with best practice in the surgical department, and allows the surgeon to connect to a wider range of services.

“This will help to allow procedures, which may not have been able to be entirely finished here, to be completed in a timely manner.”
