Auxiliary raises thousands for health service

THE gardens to one of the region’s most historic properties drew a crowd when the gates were opened to the public for a local cause recently.

The Terang Hospital Auxiliary hosted an open garden at Glenormiston’s Dalvui Homestead in a bid to raise vital funds for Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS).

Auxiliary president Bernadette McKinnon said the event had been an overwhelming success for the dedicated auxiliary members.

“It was fantastic,” she said.

“The weather probably deterred a few people but we made over $5000 on the day.

“It’s really terrific, and it will certainly go a long way to improving the hospital through the items they want.

“We were very thankful for the local support from different people and traders, it all went very well.”

Mrs McKinnon thanked the Conn family, the owners of Dalvui Homestead, for their generosity in allowing the auxiliary to utilise the gardens.

“It’s the most beautiful garden,” she said.

“We would have had around 400 people pass through.”

The funds raised will be used to support the health service in purchasing a new blood fridge and simulation equipment to benefit the wider community.

TMHS chief executive officer Julia Ogdin acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the auxiliary.

“Without them, the health resources available to the local community would be vastly understated,” she said.

“We really can’t thank them enough.”

The auxiliary will also host a mannequin parade on October 20, organised by Abbey Lane, to serve as its final fundraiser for 2024.
