Auxiliary raises $1500 for health service
THE community united behind a trio of sports this week to raise funds for Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS).
Hospital Auxiliary secretary Susan Keane said a pleasant evening was had by all on Monday as the community took to the Terang bowling greens, golf courses and the croquet lawn to support the cause.
“It went really well,” she said.
“It was the perfect evening weather wise.
“We had a good crowd with around 70 people in attendance.
“It went financially well; our raffles made several hundred dollars.”
Mrs Keane said there were a total of 24 bowlers, 25 golfers and 16 players filling the croquet lawn.
“Each of the sports organised their own competition, with prizes available for best score,” she said.
“We had the bowlers in eight teams of three, and the winning team was Brendan Kenna and Clive and Donna Baxter.
“Everyone had a wonderful time, and enjoyed a two-course meal with a barbecue and salad followed by a fruit salad for dessert.”
Mrs Keane thanked all involved for their generosity, noting the sale of raffle tickets was a particularly strong point of emphasis for attendees.
The total funds raised were still being counted at the time of publication, but the auxiliary estimates in excess of $1500 was raised.
“Thank you everyone who came along on the night and supported the health service,” Mrs Keane said.
“It was great to have so much support from people who travelled from outside our usual area, plus all the regulars who always provide so much support.”
Mrs Keane said all funds raised go directly to Terang and Mortlake Health Service to support the wider community when they need it most.
The auxiliary most recently donated $11,000 towards the purchase of a blood storage fridge.
The auxiliary is planning a number of events throughout the year to further their support.
“We have a fashion parade on March 23 – we also have a jazz afternoon in July and we’re currently planning to host an open garden fundraiser at the historic Woolongoon property in Mortlake.
“We had a fundraiser in Noorat at Dalvui last year, which was so successful, so we’re looking forward to that.
“We’ll also be back with our raffle on Gala Night, so we’re hoping to raise quite a bit of funding for the health service.”
