Baker shines on the greens

CAMPERDOWN College’s senior campus is celebrating the efforts of student Tom Baker, who placed equal third at the School Sport Victoria Final Gardiners Run last Friday.
Tom’s score was three under par, which he said was a difficult score to attain considering the winner’s score was seven under.
“I’m not sure how many players there were, but there was a fair few; it was an achievement to come equal third,” he said.
“I just started out playing at home with an old set of clubs that were there, and I really enjoyed it.
“I went and got fitted up for a new set and continued playing.”
A member of Camperdown Golf Club and a division one player, Tom will head to the Woodlands Golf Club in Melbourne next Tuesday for the state tryouts.
“I hope to play well on Tuesday and then progress to the next level,” he said.
Camperdown College assistant principal Vicki Angus said the school was extremely proud of Tom’s results and enjoyed seeing success in a lesser-recognised sport such as golf.
“We’ve had success in our bowls, and now we’ve seen success with a student in the golfing area,” she said.
“It’s fantastic, and something we’re all celebrating.
“Tom played locally against other students in Colac in February to qualify for this, and we’ll certainly support him and hopefully he will qualify for the nationals on the Gold Coast.”
