Ballots arriving in mailboxes this week
VOTERS throughout the south west can expect to receive their ballots in the mail this week.
Ballots have now been mailed to homes across the region as part of the upcoming local government elections.
Tandarook Ward is the only contested ward in the Corangamite Shire this year, with incumbent councillor Jo Beard hoping to retain her seat against Cath Jenkins.
Each of the other wards across the shire will see the incumbent councillors running uncontested, and residents in those wards will not be required to vote.
There is no ward system in the Moyne Shire Council local government area, so all residents will be required to fill out their ballots and vote.
Electoral commissioner Sven Bluemmel encouraged residents to vote as early as possible.
“This election is postal, so it’s important to complete and return your ballot material as soon as possible to make sure your vote counts,” he said.
In Corangamite Shire, ballot material must be in the mail or delivered to the election office at McCabe Room - Killara Complex, 210 - 212 Manifold Street, Camperdown by 6pm Friday, October 25.
In Moyne Shire, ballot material must be in the mail or delivered to the election office at 89 Dunlop Street, Mortlake by 6pm Friday, October 25.
Voters in both shires who have not received their ballot pack by Tuesday, October 15 should go to vec.vic.gov.au to complete an online replacement ballot pack form.
Candidates who have nominated for the election are listed in the ballot packs and on the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website at vec.vic.gov.au.
If candidates have provided them, there will also be candidate photos and statements in the packs, and answers to the candidate questionnaire online.
Voting is compulsory for all voters who were enrolled for this election at 4pm from Wednesday, August 7.
Residents who don’t vote may be fined.
