The barbecue was set up in the town square, with sausages and burgers cooking while people took the opportunity to have a conversation.

Camperdown Rotary Club secretary Graeme Fischer said between 50 and 70 people visited the barbecue.

“A member of staff from Camperdown Mental Health came down and spoke to people about mental health research,” he said.

“Norm MacDonald did a good job cooking the barbecue.

“I don’t know what we’ve made because we haven’t opened the tin – it’s not about making money, it’s about promoting the cause.

“Rotary does things as a community service and that’s just something we do – try to help if people need to be helped.

“It was also a fundraiser for mental health research, which is even better.”

The barbecue coincided with R U OK? Day last Thursday and World Suicide Prevention Day last Wednesday.
