Barely a drop of rain in January

TERANG and Mortlake experienced some of the lowest rainfall results on record through January, with both communities recording only one day of light rain.


As low as it gets: Terang and Mortlake each experienced one of the driest January periods on record, with 1mm or less recorded over both towns throughout the first month of the year.

In Terang just 1mm of rain was recorded on January 20, with nothing recorded on the remaining days of the month.

The figure marks a stark departure from the 39.4mm long-term average, typically experienced from a summer storm or two.

The result was further below the 13.8mm experienced in the same period last year.

The figure was even lower in Mortlake, with just 0.2mm of rain recorded to have fallen during the month, on January 10.

The long-term average rainfall for Mortlake is 35mm.

Last January was also dry for Mortlake with just 19.6mm having hit the ground.
