Warrnambool’s Tom Hynes, a teacher at Emmanuel College, continued to build on his legacy as a multi-time winner when he recorded his fifth victory on Friday.

“I haven’t run it since 2020 because I’ve had a few injuries so to come back and win was something I’m pretty happy with,” Hynes said.

Hynes said he enjoyed having the chance to get back to the event which embraced a community-minded approach while still giving runners the opportunity to test themselves competitively.

“I love the community feel of the event,” Hines said.

“It’s got a rich history, it’s been going for 43 years, and I like how past champions are honoured through the event.”

Allansford’s Fleur Barling was the first female to cross the line in what was her first Noorat-Terang.

“I feel really good,” she said.

“It was so much fun – really windy, but also really good. It’s my first time running in the event, I actually did the walk last year in a moon boot because I was injured, but it was really good to run this year.

“It was good to beat the train too; I only just got through before the boom gates came down.”

Barling, a nurse in emergency at the Warrnambool Base Hospital, said she would definitely be back for the event, which (as a shorter race) allowed her to pick up the pace.

“I did the Port Fairy Marathon two weeks ago and came second female so it’s good to run the shorter distances and go a bit faster,” she said.

Warrnambool’s Tom Hynes earned his fifth victory in the Terang and District Lions Club Noorat to Terang Fun Run and Walk after a four-year absence.
