TERANG’S George Beasley won the Marc Leishman Trophy at the 2022 Western District Golf Association (WDGA) champion for 2022.

Beasley shot 106 off the stick to finish one-under after 27 holes, two shots clear of his nearest rival at Terang Golf Course last Sunday.

In addition to the Marc Leishman trophy, Beasley was also awarded the WDGA’s K.G. Horne memorial trophy for the under-21 scratch winner.

Beasley, in his laconic fashion, said he was happy with his performance overall but could have done better.

“It was not too bad, I could have played better,” he said.

“I stuffed up the back end of the round, but overall it wasn’t too bad. I generally hit everything pretty well and didn’t get too upset or frustrated with myself when I didn’t.

“I guess I conducted myself okay, so I could get myself back into good positions again.

“There were a lot of good players, so it was good to prove to myself and others that I can compete with the better golfer around. It’s a pretty good feeling.”

George’s father Phil Beasley also tasted success on Sunday, claiming the WDGA F.O. Bilson Trophy for the best 18-hole scratch player with a round of 73.

At the conclusion of the day’s play the district’s Country Week squad was also announced, with George and his brother Fred both selected in the initial squad.

The squad, currently including 20 players, will be cut down to eight through a series of qualifying rounds before Country Week.

Camperdown Golf Club had a good result with Douglas Kenny winning both the 18 holes scratch and stableford in C grade.
