The pendant, featuring a South Sea Pearl and a baille set with small diamonds, was presented to Ms Duynhoven by Jennifer Blomeley after she was announced as the winner of the good-better-best competition held during the McFarlane Dress Display on Friday, March 27.

Ms Duynhoven said she was excited when she was presented with the pendant.

“I was actually shocked when I got the phone call. It was really nice and lovely,” she said.

“Jennifer came in and handed me the necklace.

“I went down to the dress exhibition with Carole Manifold to have a look at the dresses, and we entered the good-better-best competition.

“We had a read of the information with each tiara and wrote down our guesses. I didn’t think I’d win.

“It’s gorgeous.”

Ms Duynhoven was among 100 entries into the competition, with only six people guessing correctly before a random draw was used to decide the winner from the six correct guesses.

Mrs Blomeley said she was pleased to see the strong support for the good-better-best competition.

“We thought it’d add a nice bit of interest to the dress display, and many people purchased tickets to enter,” she said.

“The winning guess was the tiara which was in the middle of the display.

“It was a high-quality replica of the Lover’s Knot tiara worn by Princess Diana and now Princess Kate – it’s been in the Royal family for many years.

“The other two tiaras were made in China and were not nearly as well-made and their construction wasn’t as solid.

“The replica tiara was made from sterling silver, was radium-plated and, instead of having rhinestones or coloured glass like the other two tiaras, it had cubic zirconias.”

Mrs Blomeley said she had spent two-three months searching for the prize, which features a natural pearl.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Gloria won it because she said she didn’t have a pearl pendent,” she said.

“I hope she has a bit of enjoyment wearing it. It was a South Sea Pearl – it had a few imperfections on the skin, but those are said to be nature’s fingerprints.

“It was a nice size, around 10-11mm, with a diamond-set baille.”
