Benallacks marks 60 years of trade
WEDNESDAY saw families and business people alike come together to celebrate a milestone for one business along Manifold Street.

The day marked 60 years since Benallack’s Sports first opened, which proprietors Andrew Benallack and Michelle Elijah celebrated with a community-based day at the store.
Mr Benallack said the day began between 10-10.30am, with children having their faces painted while their parents had a sausage cooked by the Camperdown Lions Club.
“There were a few representatives in store from a variety of companies that we deal with, local identity Sarah Wall with her Net Fit range, and lots of people fronted for a gossip and a chinwag,” he said.
“The whole idea was to thank the community and the district for their support to the business and allowing us to be in business for a very long time.
“The support that the community gave us was fantastic.
“There were lots of kids, lots of mums and dads, lots of fellow business people, the shire – everybody was very kind and came and said hello.”
The day also included a cutting of a cake, which was done by original owner and Mr Benallack’s mother Gwen Benallack.
Ms Elijah said Mr Benallack and herself had an “awesome” day despite the chilly weather, and they “loved all the support” given by the community.
“Gwen was very overwhelmed when she was cutting the cake and thanking everyone for being here, so that was really lovely,” she said.
“The kids had a really lovely day.
“We just appreciate everybody who helped to put the day together.”
