Benefits flow for BAS allocations

BUSINESSES have seen a financial boost thanks to the final round of the Business Assistance Scheme (BAS) for the financial year, with $7130 granted at this week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Corangamite Shire councillors unanimously voted to provide funding to the four applicants, with the allocation leaving just $689 in the grant budget at the end of the financial year.

Two of the applications were for stream one of the BAS – business façade improvement, which allows businesses to undertake upgrade works on their street-facing facades.

Curry Bliss Camperdown received $1285 for new business identification signage, which also includes a fee waiver of $226.90.

The Terang Thai Massage and Nail Salon also received funding for new identification signage, being granted $1845 and a $226.90 fee waiver.

Stream two of the BAS – creative industries and placemaking, which supports entrepreneurs, creatives and established businesses to deliver projects accessible to the public – also received two applications.

The Anglican Parishes of Camperdown and Holy Apostles received $2000 to go towards improving heritage elements of the St Paul’s Church Hall and Sunday School for an upcoming event.

The 12 Apostles Food Artisans incorporation also received $2000 of funding, which will go towards a winter placemaking activation event across the shire.

Deputy mayor councillor Laurie Hickey moved to proceed with the funding, saying both streams were providing good assistance to local businesses.

“Curry Bliss in Camperdown is located in the old Pat’s Chinese shop, so there needs new identification signage,” he said.

“The Terang Thai Massage and Nail Salon I haven’t been to yet, but I’ll put it on the list to pop in and say hello to them.

“The 12 Apostles Artisans promotion is great and it’s good to see that the heritage of the Saint Paul’s Parish Hall and the Sunday School is being respected too.

“I’m very happy to deliver these business assistance schemes.”

Councillor Nick Cole seconded the motion, saying he was pleased to see more businesses being supported.

“Small amounts of money make a big difference sometimes and it’s good to see businesses and the parish hall taking up those grants,” he said.

“It keeps them open and creating in the shire.”
