Big opening round win for juniors

AFTER a first round bye, Pomborneit's under 17 boys team opened their season with a 150 run round two win over West Warrion on Tuesday night.

West Warrion batted first in the match at the Pomborneit Recreation Reserve, with Bulls new ball bowler Max Rees taking the first wicket with the second ball of the match.

Rees struck again in the third over to reduce the Panthers to 2/0.

Vice-captain Fletcher Tolland ripped through the Panthers middle order with three wickets in a row, before seamer Finn Huggins did the same.

Tolland took 3/11 from 4 overs, with Huggins taking 3/4 from two overs.

Ollie West and captain Levi Cootesmith took a wicket each as the visitors were bowled out for 53 in the 28th over.

Bulls openers Fletcher Tolland and George Sadler wasted no time getting stuck into the West Warrion bowlers, passing the visitors total in the eighth over.

Tolland scored 34 from the 30 ball retirement mark, with Sadler making 31 from 24 balls.

Batting at number three, Jonty Raven impressed with 22 retired from 30 balls, while others to do well included Josh Reynolds with 19 retired from 13 balls, Max Rees with 10 retired from 15 balls and Levi Cootesmith with 10 from 20 balls.

Pomborneit finished on 3/203 to record a strong win.

Harvey Roberts played his first game for Pomborneit, retiring with nine runs from 13 balls as well as bowling two tight overs.

Finn Huggins and Miller Murphy, who have both progressed through the Bulls junior ranks, also made their under 17 debuts.

Huggins made five retired from 11 balls in addition to his three wickets, while Murphy scored four runs and bowled a tidy over.

This Tuesday the under 17 Bulls play Alvie at Alvie.
