Big season for Lions
THE Noorat Terang Lions put in a gallant effort during last weekend’s final against Hawkesdale, but fell short of an inaugural premiership win in their new league.
The Lions have had a stellar first season as an amalgamated club in the Warrnambool and District League division two competition.
The Lions finished the home and away season an impressive second on the league ladder, with 13 wins under their belt.
The side defeated Koroit in its semi-final match the previous week, before taking on Hawkesdale for premiership honours at the Allansford Recreation Reserve last weekend.
Hawkesdale won the toss and elected to bat first, reaching 10/178 in the 71st over.
Gus Bourke had a great day out with the ball, impressing with figures of 7/53 from 30 overs while other wickets were shared between Liam Geary 1/44 and Tim Keane 1/40.
In reply, the Lions were restricted to 10/113 in the 68th over with Sam Munro the best of the batsmen, reaching 39 from 105 balls faced.
Team-mate Liam Geary also performed, making 23 which included three boundaries, while Bernard Harris was the only other Lion to reach double figures, contributing 14.
