Big win for Bulls
POMBORNEIT’S division one cricket side has continued its strong start to 2025 with a 184 run win over Camperdown at MCP Oval.

Sent into bat by the visitors, the Bulls were set up well by a second wicket partnership of 134 between Dave Murphy and Grant Place before Place was dismissed for 74 from 71 runs, his third half century of the season.
Murphy was then joined at the crease by Tom Darcy, with the pair adding 93 for the third wicket.
Murphy brought up his seventh division one century, ending up on 113 from 98 balls including twelve fours and four sixes, in the process also passing 9000 senior career runs in Pomborneit colours.
Darcy made a bright 52 from 51 balls, while lower order contributions from Tim Place with 36 and Sam Darcy unbeaten on 17 saw the Bulls post 9/332.
Early wickets to Clinton Place and Brad Hillman saw the Lakers under early pressure, the Bulls able to secure regular breakthroughs, including three run outs, to dismiss Camperdown for 148 in the 38th over.
Lahiru Fernando led the bowling with 3/21 from 9.1 overs, with skipper Matt Bignell taking two wickets.
In division two, Pomborneit bowled first at the Cobden Tech Oval, with the home team making 9/223 from their 40 overs. Spinners Fletcher Tolland (3/38 from eight overs), Josh Reynolds (3/47 from 8eight overs) and Sam Whytcross (1/47 from seven overs) were impressive on a very fast outfield, while opening bowler Gavin Reynolds took 1/21 from his five over spell with the new ball.
In reply the Bulls never really got their innings going, all out for 184 in the final over, featuring Stephen Hill top scoring with 38 from 41 balls.
In Division 3, Pomborneit batted first at the Timboon High School Oval, and looked in a good position at 1/125 before losing their last nine wickets for 70 runs.
Veteran Tony Evans top scored with 65, while Alex Downie continued his good form with 61 from 51 balls, yet they were the only Pomborneit batsmen to make double figures.
The run chase went right down to the wire, Heytesbury/Princetown finishing nine runs short at 8/186 from their 40 overs.
Alex Downie made it a fine all round game with 3/41 from eight overs of his off spinners, opening bowler Jack Darcy was impressive with 2/20 from eight overs with Stephen Walters also taking two wickets.
Pomborneit's division four team had a 38 run loss to Tomahawk Creek at South Purrumbete, Wes Lenehan top scoring with 44 not out in the Bulls score of 126.
All women's and junior girls games were called off on Sunday under the CDCA heat policy.
In junior boys cricket, the under 17 boys had a 50 run win over Alvie at Alvie on Tuesday night.
Batting first, Pomborneit made 4/152 from their 30 overs, Ben Whytcross top scoring with 26 retired from 30 balls, Levi Cootesmith made 23 retired from 30 balls and Fletcher Tolland 18 retired from 30 balls.
In reply the junior Bulls dismissed the home team for 102, Levi Cootesmith with 3/9 from four overs and Gavin Reynolds with 3/13 from five overs the pick of the bowlers.
The Under 16 boys had a seven wicket win over Bookaar at Frederick St on Sunday, the home team batting first were bowled out for 82.
Josh Reynolds took his first five wicket haul at Under 16 level with 5/5 from four overs, Finn Huggins bowled a great spell of 2/14 from four overs while opening bowler Levi Cootesmith conceded just seven runs from his six overs.
In reply Pomborneit reached 3/94 when the game was called off due to the heat.
Openers Fletcher Tolland (25 from42 balls) and George Sadler (19 from 29 balls) set up a strong platform, with Jonty Raven unbeaten on 27 and Levi Cootesmith not out on 16 when the game was called off.
On Friday night, the Under 14 boys had a 15 run win over City United at Elliminyt, Sam Tolland top scoring with 20 retired in the Bulls score of 6/115.
Jonty Richardson led the wicket takers with 2/7 from 4 overs as the Bulls kept City United to 6/100 from their 30 overs.
