Big win for Swans
CARAMUT scored its biggest win in many years of Mininera and District senior football competition, defeating Moyston/Willaura by 115 points at the Moyston Recreation Reserve.
The Swans outscored the home team in every quarter to record a 20.16.136 to 3.3.21 win in the round eight clash.
“It was a great win in the wet, and our first 100 plus win in a very long time,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.
“It’s good to play a four quarter game, though we probably fizzled out a little bit in the last quarter.”
The Swans had nine different goal scorers, pleasing Judd.
“It was a good spread, it’s good to get goal kicking midfielders in the mix, it’s good to see a few people step up and take their opportunity.
“Overall it’s pleasing to get a good spread of goal kickers on a wet day let alone on a good day”
Ben Makepeace led the goal kickers with five to take his season total to 25.
“It’s nice to have someone that’s always there kicking goals. But he’s not the only one from a goal kicking aspect, I think we’d have five or six guys that would be in double figures now and it’s nice to not just hang our hat on just one person kicking all the goals.”
Hamish Pierson kicked four goals for the Swans, with Judd, Nathan Murphy, Damien Wynd and Matt Rook.
Aubrey Watson was best for Caramut in the win.
“Aubrey hasn’t played every game, he’s played a few games in the ressies and on Saturday he was the cleanest player on the ground in terms of skills.
“He just made it look like it was still dry under the footy, he’s got a lot of pace about him, so his run and carry really broke the game open, he definitely stood out by a long way.”
This week Caramut heads to Mininera to take on the SMW Rovers.
“They’ve had our measure the last few years, a bit like most teams have, hopefully we can match it with them this time and obviously any away game is a danger game.
“We’ve got a couple of good ins coming back in, so we’ll have Caleb Harris and Phil Chatfield back in this week which will be a couple of really good ins.”
Caramut also got the points in the reserves, scoring a 14.16.100 to 2.0.12 win.
Teba Lott, Riley Fox and Bailey Moloney were best for the Swans reserves, with Joe Douglas kicking five goals.
Caramut’s under 17 footballers had a one point win, 5.7.37 to 5.6.36.
Charlie Pearse, Fergus Giles and Taj O’Brien were best, with Andrew Gapes kicking three goals.
Moyston/Willaura took out the under 13 football with a 10.8.68 to 1.1.7 win.
Oliver Russell, Charlie Young and Harry Diprose were best for the junior Swans, with Arlo McRae kicking the only goal.
Moyston/Willaura were too strong in the A grade netball, winning 46-27.
Zoe Wagstaff and Maddi Calvert shot 12 goals each.
The B grade game also went the way of the Pumas who won 32-25.
Charlotte Delaney scored 15 goals for Caramut, with Delaney and Carmel Moloney best.
In C grade, Caramut had a 28-19 win.
Carmel Meade and Julia Mann shot 14 goals each, with Meade best.
Moyston/Willaura scored a 27-22 win in the 17 and under game, with Naomi Lee shooting 14 goals for Caramut.
In the 15 and under game, Caramut had a 26-6 win, with Alex Lehmann scoring 17 goals.
The 13 and under netball saw Caramut win 15-3.
Payson Walker shot nine goals and was best for the junior Swans.
