The Biggest Morning Tea is an annual fundraiser hosted throughout May to June for the Cancer Council which invites communities to get together and raise money for an honourable cause.

Simpson and District Community Centre coordinator Debra Smith, who made all the cakes and platters for the occasion, said this was the second year in a row she’s hosted the Biggest Morning Tea in Simpson.

“My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer when she was 80,” she said.

“She was good, she had surgery, no chemo, nothing, so she was really lucky.

“Not everybody is that lucky – while she recovered, her friend died of it.

“It would be nice if more showed up, but it’s the luck of the day really, because everybody’s got stuff to do.

“It’s nice to have people in and sit down and share a cuppa and chat and solve the problems of the world.”
