Bloods back on winners’ list
AFTER two consecutive losses, Terang Mortlake’s senior footballers returned to the winners’ list with a 20 point win over second-placed Koroit in the round nine Hampden League clash on Saturday.
After leading at half-time, the Bloods were down by four points at the last change before kicking five goals to one in the final term to record a 10.10.70 to 7.8.50 win at the DC Farran Oval.
“It was good to bounce back after the last couple of weeks, we’ve been playing okay footy, playing North Warrnambool and then Warrnambool who are in good form, there was just little moments and we couldn’t quite put it together,” Bloods coach Lewy Taylor said.
“But I thought on the weekend we did pretty well, they challenged us in the third and actually went up, but we were able to come back and kick five goals in the last, so that was very pleasing.”
Playing at Mortlake is something Taylor and his team are enjoying.
“We’ve got a good record at Mortlake, since I’ve been back we’ve only lost two games there and that’s been to North Warrnambool by a few kicks both times, so not much in it.
“We play the ground pretty well and we’ve obviously got some young guys that are nice and zippy and are suited to the big ground.”
Ryley Hutchins led the goal kickers with three, gathered 30 disposals and was named as the Bloods best in the win.
“Ryley is having a great season and he probably played his best match of the year on Saturday.
“He’s building really nicely and he was at his absolute best on the weekend.”
Taylor himself led the possession getters with 35, with Tyler Vickers getting 33.
The Bloods coach also had plenty of praise for Tayte McMaster’s game.
“Tate’s having a bit of a breakout season, he played one game late last year in the last round, and then, his last couple of weeks especially have been fantastic.
“He’s only played nine or 10 games and he looks like he’s played 100 or 150, with some of the stuff he’s doing.
“He is playing a really good role for us, he played on (Warrnambool star forward) Luke Cody last week and really shut him down, then was able to just play a bit freer this week, while also intercepting, spoiling and running.”
Playing his third game of senior footy, Zavier Fowler contributed well and kicked two goals.
“Zav was really good, we brought him in for one game against Hamilton a month ago and just due to blokes coming back, he missed out after that.
“But this time we wanted to give him a couple of cracks at it, he kicked a couple of goals which was pleasing and had seven tackles to go with that, which was really good.”
This week the Bloods play the winless Camperdown team at the Terang Recreation Reserve.
“Camperdown probably take a bit of confidence out of what they did to us there last year, so I have no doubt they’ll be looking back to that.
“We’ve just got to make sure we show up, I said to the boys after the game that it’s the halfway mark, you’ve done a lot of the good work, we just have to keep going, we can’t get complacent, they’re going to win a game eventually, there’s no doubt about that.”
In the reserves, Koroit scored a dominant 11.13.79 to 0.2.2.
Best for the Bloods in the loss were Damien Goddard, Charlie Finnerty and Henry Carroll.
The under 18 football saw Koroit score a 7.7.49 to 4.4.28 win.
Jobe Baker, Cameron Goddard and Max Heffernan were best for Terang Mortlake, with Heffernan, Caleb Bamford, Sam Lillico and Hamish Molan kicking a goal each.
Koroit scored a 19.19.133 to 1.3.9 win in the under 16 game.
Max Slater, Paddy Meade, Arlo Herry and Hugh Kenna were best for the Bloods in the loss, with Herry kicking the only goal.
In the under 14s, Terang Mortlake won 5.9.39 to 0.4.4.
Liam Kenna, Oliver Clarke and Nate Irving were best for the Bloods, with Irving kicking two goals.
The under 12 football saw a 5.4.34 to 1.2.8 win for Koroit.
Alexander Gubbins, Ollie Membrey and Harry Keogh were best for the Bloods, with Jack Gilmour kicking the only goal.
Terang Mortlake’s women’s football team was once again forced to forfeit its game on Sunday, the fourth forfeit of the season.
The Terang Mortlake women have the bye this week.

In the Open netball, Koroit was too strong, winning 73-37.
Ava Grundy, Pippa Barr and Jacqui Arundell were best in the loss for the Bloods, with Lyla Grundy shooting 30 goals and Jacqui Arundell seven.
The division one game saw Koroit win 35-20.
Best for Terang Mortlake were Bailee Overweter, Lizzie Cook and Charli Dillon, with Maddison Chesshire shooting 11 goals.
The division two game ended with a 36-20 win to Koroit.
Caitlin Overweter, Ava Nolan and Molly Kavenagh were best for the Bloods, with Nolan scoring 18 goals.
Koroit took out the division three netball with a 33-24 win.
Best for the Bloods were Sema Meric, Harriet Place and Tess Harris, with Isla Primrose scoring 15 goals.
The 17 and under game ended in a 23-23 draw.
Pippa Barr, Maddison Wallace and Mckenzie Dillon were best for Terang Mortlake, with Lyla Grundy shooting 20 goals.
Koroit also got the points in the 17 and under reserves with a 30-27 win.
Violet Dillon, Lily Guthrie and Emma Hill were best for the Bloods, with Tahnee Sachs shooting 16 goals and Dillon 11.
Koroit was too strong in the 15 and under game, winning 55-10.
Best in the loss for Terang Mortlake were Tilly Harrison, Parker McDougall and Chloe Bouchier, with Bouchier shooting six goals.
The 15 and under reserves game saw Koroit win 23-13.
Tilly Harrison, Grace Boshier and Francesca Rickard were best for Terang Mortlake, with Poppy Moloney scoring nine goals.
The 13 and under game saw Koroit register a 26-18 win.
Taleah Dower, Mary Heffernan and Annabelle Blackford were best for the Bloods, with Blackford shooting 11 goals.
The 13 and under reserves netball went the way of Koroit who scored an 24-19 win.
Charlotte Boshier, Kora Wines and Shania Madzarevic were Terang Mortlake’s best, with Daisy Sargeant shooting 16 goals.
