Bloods fall short against Koroit

TERANG Mortlake’s rollercoaster season continued Saturday when the Bloods lost to Koroit by 173 points.
After beating Port Fairy last week by 10 goals, Terang Mortlake had some confidence going into the match against the Saints, and they came out with a solid first-quarter performance, kicking three straight to Koroit’s 5.2.
However, the Bloods were kept scoreless throughout the second and third periods, and eventually went down 4.0 (24) to Koroit’s31.11 (197).
Matty Arundell kicked two for the away side and was in the Bloods’ best alongside Ryley Hutchins, Dylan Jones, Gus Bourke, Jarryd Hay and Joe Arundell.
Terang Mortlake take on Warrnambool this week at home, who had its first win last week against North Warrnambool, and the Bloods will be keen to steady the ship and go two-for-two after the first four rounds.
In other Hampden League games last week, South Warrnambool won at Port Fairy, Camperdown lost at home to Cobden, and Portland beat Hamilton.
Terang Mortlake lost on the netball court as well, going down by 40 goals to 55 against Koroit.
After a tough first quarter the Bloods rallied, going into the half-time break just one goal down at 24-25.
A big second half from the Saints stopped the Bloods in their tracks, as the visitors were unable to sustain forward momentum.
Ellen-Rose Lee was best on court for Terang Mortlake, with Rhi Davis and Madeline Solly also getting in the votes, while new recruit Eboni Knights had a solid game under the ring, scoring 24 goals.
In other games around the league, Cobden defeated Camperdown, Port Fairy lost at home to South Warrnambool, Warrnambool beat North Warrnambool, and Hamilton lost 38-59 to Portland.
