Bloods fight to the end

TERANG MORTLAKE gave a strong second half performance against visitors Cobden on the weekend but couldn’t overcome a 37-point first-half deficit, losing 7.9 (51) to the Bombers 13.17 (95).
Cobden snatched the lead early, kicking 3.6 to the Bloods’ 1.2 in the first quarter, and managed to keep the home side goalless in the second quarter, leading 45-8 at the major break.
The Bloods gave it their all after half-time, making up some ground on the Bombers with a four-goal third quarter and maintained that effort through the final term, but Cobden held firm, winning by 44 points at the final siren.
Will Kain and Ryley Hutchins both kicked two goals for Terang Mortlake, with the latter named in the best alongside Jarryd Hay, Dylan Jones and the Bloods’ best on ground Brodhi Carracher.
This week Terang Mortlake hosts Camperdown, who suffered a 116-point loss to North Warrnambool on the weekend, and the Bloods will be keen to take advantage of the Magpies’ poor recent form and take the four points.
A victory this week would likely see the Bloods overtake Camperdown on the ladder and move into seventh, as Terang Mortlake sits just four points and less than two percentage points behind their opponents.
In other Hampden League matches on the weekend, Koroit beat Warrnambool by 125 points, Hamilton won away against Port Fairy, and South Warrnambool defeated Portland 92-27.
