After an even first half, the Bloods kicked nine goals to Koroit’s four in the second half to seal the win at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval.

Crucially, the 14.12.96 to 8.4.52 win sees the sixth-placed Bloods back level on 28 points with the fifth placed Saints.

“The boys played really well, we knew the importance of the game,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Taylor said.

“It was a real four quarter effort, even in the first half I thought we played better footy, we just couldn’t put it on the scoreboard.”

Young stars Ryley Hutchins and Xavier Vickers were in the best for Terang Mortlake, Taylor full of praise for their games.

“Ryley is building nicely after coming back from injury, he was very polished on Saturday.

“Xavier has been really good all season, he had a heap of the ball, laid 17 tackles and kicked a nice goal in a great performance.”

Former AFL players Colin O’Riordan and Trent West were also strong contributors for Terang Mortlake in the win.

“Colin was really good down back, gave us plenty of drive, he’s a very good mover,” Taylor said.

“Westy gave us first use all day, got his hand to the ball to our advantage, he’s got better with each outing for us.”

Most pleasing for the Bloods coach was the spread of scorers, with 11 different players kicking goals.

“It’s the way we need to go about it, Bucky (forward Rhys Buck) gives us a good target but it’s great when we can have multiple goalkicking options.”

The Bloods have some big games ahead in their finals quest, starting this week with South Warrnambool at the Friendlies Society Park.

“We’re pretty keen to put in a big effort, there’s some big games coming up that we will need to be up and about for.”
