Bloods sneak home under lights
TERANG Mortlake notched up its fourth win of the season, with victory under lights at DC Farran Oval last weekend.
TERANG Mortlake notched up its fourth win of the season, with victory under lights at DC Farran Oval last weekend.
The Bloods showed they can put in a solid four-quarter effort and win the close ones, defeating Hamilton by just seven points on Saturday night.
Bloods coach Ben Kenna said he was thrilled with his side’s performance in wet and muddy conditions.
“I was pretty happy with how they went given how chopped up the ground was as the game went on,” Kenna said.
“It was a close one all game but it was good to finally see our boys taking chances when they were there, and capitalising on our opportunities."
“Daniel Kenna was strong in the midfield all day and Hugh Porter also played a great game.”
The season has been a challenging one for the Bloods who, sitting in ninth, have lost a few games by small margins.
“It was good to finally win a close one rather than be on the receiving end,” Kenna said.
“For us, Daniel Kenna was strong all day in the midfield and Hugh Porter was also good. Will Kain kicked four and he seems to be really finding his rhythm out there now.”
The Bloods will face third-placed North Warrnambool at Bushfield this weekend.
While the game will no doubt be another tough one for the Bloods, Kenna is hoping his chargers will take a lot of positives from last Saturday’s win.
“Hopefully the win will give the boys some added self-belief,” Kenna said.
“They’re improving from week to week and it’s been great to watch that growth.”
Final scores last Saturday were Terang Mortlake 10.6.66 to Hamilton 7.17.59.
Best for the Bloods were Daniel Kenna, Hugh Porter, Jack Lehmann, Samuel Crawley, Jarryd Hay and Jake Tanner.
Goals went to William Kane (4), Matthew Baxter (2), Ryley Hutchins, Daniel Kenna, Hugh Porter and Harvey Roberts.
The Bloods’ reserves fought hard but went down by 36 points, 5.1.31 to 10.7.67.
Best for the home side were Will Berryman, Toby Roberts, Jake Lee, Thomas Justin, Caleb Scanlon and Bailey Kavenagh.
Goals went to Joel Crawley (2), Ryan Tanner (2) and Will Berryman.
