TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers held on to take the win over Portland in a thriller at home last weekend.
The Bloods, aided by a nine-goal haul from William Kain, notched up their fifth win of the season by just six points, finishing on 11.9.75 to Portland’s 9.15.69.
“It really was a great team effort from all the boys,” coach Ben Kenna said.
“Kicking nine goals from 11 attempts, Will Kain was certainly dominant all day and Gus Bourke and young Harvey Roberts were also stand outs."
“Harvey is a young bloke who really has shown a lot of improvement in the second half the season which is great to see."
“Harvey and Gus worked really hard in the backline and stopped a lot of Portland’s entries and used the ball effectively.”
The Bloods went into the main break 11 points down but rallied in the third term to be eight points up at three-quarter time.
“Our second half effort was fantastic,” Kenna said.
“We applied pressure all over the ground and took our opportunities. We kicked the last three goals of the game and came away with a six-point victory which was really pleasing.”
Listed among the best for the Bloods were William Kain, Gus Bourke, Harvey Roberts, Jarryd Hay, Dylan Jones and Darcy Hobbs.
Goals went to Kain (9), Samuel McLean and Ryley Hutchins.
