Blues strong in the wet

THE third-placed Warrnambool Blues proved too strong for Camperdown at Leura Oval last weekend.

Round 13 proved a tough one for the Magpies, taking on the Blues in what became wet and muddy conditions.

The home team got off to a strong start, kicking 3.3 in the opening term and kept the visitors scoreless.

However, a strong second quarter from the Blues saw the conversion rate from the opening term reversed, with the Blues adding 5.3 to the scoreboard while the Magpies failed to score.

As conditions worsened in the second half, the Magpies were contained to an additional 2.3 while the Blues managed 4.4 to take the win by 25 points.

Final scores Warrnambool 9.7.61 defeated Camperdown 5.6.36.

Best for the Magpies were Cameron Spence, Joshua Place, Matthew Field, Riley Arnold, Luke O’Neil and Hamish Sinnott.

Goals went to Paddy Baker, Sidney Bradshaw, Brayden Draffin, Angus Gordon and Fraser Lucas.

Camperdown’s reserves, sitting sixth on the league ladder and three games out of the five, suffered a 54-point loss, going down 4.2.26 to 11.14.80.

Issac Stephens kicked three for the side and was named in the best alongside James McVilly, Luke Ball, Eddie Lucas, Will Kosch and Tim Fitzgerald.

Rory Swayn also contributed a goal.

The under 18 Magpies worked hard for a 14-point win over the Blues, 5.3.33 to 2.7.19.

Best for the Magpies were Brock Stephens, Eddie Baker, Tarkyn Love, Myles Sinnott, Wilba Cheesman and Lennox Tregea-Copeland.

Charlie Kempton, Jonty Lafferty, Tarkyn Love, Solly Mahony and Isaac Winsall kicked a goal each.

17 and under – Camperdown defeated Warrnambool 48-13. Best: Isla Fleming and Macy Mahony.

17 and under reserves – Warrnambool defeated Camperdown 21-6. Best: Elizabeth Dennis, Layla Blomfield and Lily Maskell.

15 and under – Warrnambool defeated Camperdown 33-16. Best: Kara Be3ll, Shelby Mahony and Kiara Love.

Round 14 tomorrow (Saturday) will see Camperdown travel to Cobden to take on the Bombers.
