COBDEN’S open netball side returned to the Hampden league winners’ list with a strong victory over Port Fairy on Saturday.

The Bombers bounced back from its first defeat in style, leading from start to finish as they recorded a 40-22 triumph at Cobden Recreation Reserve.

The home side held a three goal lead throughout the first half, but broke the game open during the third quarter.

Cobden outscored the Seagulls 10 goals to five to establish a double digit lead which they then capitalised on.

A further 13 goals to Port Fairy’s five in the last quarter ensured the Bombers would run away with a comfortable win.

Nadine McNamara was named best on court in the victory, while Rebecca Dendle and Alicia Blain also performed well.

The win pushed the Bombers eight points clear on top of the ladder following North Warrnambool’s loss to Terang Mortlake.

In the lower grades, Cobden finished with three wins and three losses from six games.

After a strong opening quarter, the Bombers fell away in the final three terms of the division one contest and eventually went down 37-27.

Jordana Bateman was awarded best on court alongside Helene Foster and Sophie Blain.

Division two also lost its contest to the Seagulls, 43-20.

Hannah Justin, Kate Hallyburton and Tess Mounsey were the Bombers best.

The division three side was also on the losing end of its match, going down 32-27.

Charlotte Quick was the Bombers best performer while Millie Parker and Alice Dawson also played well.

The junior games proved to be a shining light, with the 17 and under side winning 31-29, the 15 and under team triumphed 22-13 and the 13 and under outfit prevailed 24-10.
