Bombers break through for win
COBDEN’S senior footballers have broken through for their first win of the season with a 12.12.84 to 5.11.41 win over Camperdown at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve.

“It’s a reward for effort for the team,” a happy Cobden coach, Brody Mahoney said.
“We’ve been close in every game, but until you get that win it doesn’t mean much.”
Cobden was on top right from the start and dominated the first three quarters; their approach pleasing Mahoney.
“We came out firing early, we needed to start well which we did.
“The game really opened up for us after that start, we played on our terms for those three quarters.”
Patrick Smith was named best on ground in his second game back, while forward Michael Koroneos kicked a match high five goals.
Mahoney was full of praise for his midfield group and didn’t want to single anyone out.
“Our midfield was super, their run and pressure was super, we didn’t have a weak link there at all.
“The boys were relieved and excited after the game.
“Wins against Camperdown always mean a lot to everyone at Cobden.”
With the bye this week, Mahoney said the Bombers would take a short break before preparations resume for the Portland game on June 14.
“We’ll have Tuesday night off and resume training on Thursday; we’ve had a strong block of training, it will be good to have a bit of a break.”

The win sees the Bombers a win clear in fourth place over the Magpies in fifth.
“We knew how important this game was, it was a crucial win to get that four point buffer over Camperdown,” Bombers coach Nadine McNamara said.
Cobden got out to a strong start, up 20-10 at quarter time.
“We had a real focus on our starts in the lead up, it was very pleasing how intense we were.”
Jaymie Finch and Sophie Hinkley were best for the Bombers, McNamara liking the duo’s contribution.
“Jaymie and Sophie were superb, they fed (goal shooter) Nikki Clover well and gave us plenty of drive.”
Finch scored 20 goals with Clover scoring a match high 42.
“Nikki Clover has been building in confidence, she had a tough match up against a very tall goal keeper and played extremely well.”
With a week off, the Bombers will refresh ahead of their next game against Portland.
“Nice to have a rest this week, the Portland game will be similar to the Camperdown game, Portland are four points behind us so another important game against another finals contender.”
