Bombers clinch victory
THE Bombers senior football side was able to fight back from a sluggish start to clinch a 21-point victory against Portland over the weekend.
Cobden struggled early on as the winless Tigers came out firing to close out the first quarter 4.5 (29), while the Bombers managed just 1.5 (11).
The home side started to find their groove in the second quarter, slotting five goals to chip away at the deficit and head at the half time down four points.
Portland could not keep pace with the Bombers after the break, leading the Tigers 9.10 (64) to 8.8 (56) heading into the final term.
From there Cobden poured it on, securing victory 14.15 (99) over Portland Tigers seniors 11.12 (78)
Best for the bombers were Jesse Williamson, Zac Green, Ben Berry, Tim Auckland, Sam Thow and Arthur Armstrong.
Jesse Williamson kicked four goals, Arthur Armstrong 3, Ben Berry and Joshua Hickey both kicking two goals while Kurtis Baker, Michael Koroneos and Henry Robertson all kicking one.
The result leaves the Bombers sitting 5th on the ladder heading in to a bumper clash with the 2nd overall North Warrnambool Eagles.
Victory would solidify the Bombers among the competition’s best, so Cobden will be looking to clinch victory at Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve this Saturday from 2pm.
Earlier in the day, Cobden’s reserves side bombarded the goals, demolishing Portland 17.13 (115) to 1.4 (10).
Best for the bombers were Luke Hickey, Joe Hutt, Thomas Spokes, Oliver Darcy, Tyler Humphrey and Noah Sinnott.
Thomas Spokes kicked six goals, Oliver Darcy kicked three, Matt Clarke and Joe Hutt both kicking two while Luke Hickey, Blake Mottram, Jacob Pekin and Brady Green all kick one.
