Bombers end Saints march
COBDEN’S senior footballers made it two from two last weekend, with a 37-point win over Koroit.
Following a comfortable 45-point opening round victory over Hamilton, the Bombers continued their strong start to the season on Saturday.
Under the direction of senior coach Brody Mahony, the Bombers got off to a relatively slow start at Victoria Park, kicking 1.5 for the opening term.
By the main break the visitors had a 15-point lead which was extended to 29 points at three-quarter time.
On the final siren the Bombers were 10.9.69 while containing the home side to 4.8.32.
Best for the victors were Tim Auckland, Benjamin McGlade, Jesse Williamson, Sam Lucas, Ben Berry and Patrick Smith.
Goals went to Harrison Herschell, Michael Koroneos and Jesse Williamson (two each), with singles to Ben Berry, Henry Robertson and Angus Uwland.
The Bombers last met Koroit in last season’s preliminary final when the Bombers took the win by 28 points.
Season 2023 saw Cobden’s finals end in the semi-final round with a 22-point loss to Terang Mortlake.
In other Hampden League matches last weekend, Warrnambool defeated Port Fairy, North were big winners over Portland, Hamilton took the points over Camperdown and South Warrnambool were too strong for the Bloods.

Division three – Cobden lost to Koroit 26-27. Best: Tayla Hickey, Kayla Hunter and Julia Walsh.
17 and under – Cobden lost to Koroit 36-50. Best: Matilda Darcy, Nikki Clover and Emily Hickey.
17 and under reserves – Cobden lost to Koroit 13-36. Best: Olivia Moorfield, Mia McVilly and Chloe Bridges.
15 and under – Cobden lost to Koroit 13-32. Best: Hannah Robertson, Tyra Sambell and Marley Howard.
15 and under reserves – Cobden lost to Koroit 11-36. Best: Isabella Wain, Chloe Anderson and Evie Moorfield.
13 and under – Cobden lost to Koroit 16-45. Best: Daisy Bennett, Zaya Howard and Lily Baxter.
13 and under reserves – Cobden drew with Koroit 15-15. Best: Charlotte Dean, Grace Barber and Dakoda Baker.
Round three this weekend will see the Bombers home to Warrnambool.
