Bombers fight continues

WITH just two rounds of the Hampden League home and away season remaining, Cobden’s senior footballers continue to fight for the highly-sought fifth spot on the ladder.

A percentage boosting 130-point win over Portland last weekend sees the Cobden Bombers sitting just percentage outside the top five but on equal points with the Koroit Saints.

The Bombers will face the second-placed North Warrnambool at Bushfield this Saturday before rounding out the season against Terang Mortlake (fourth) on August 24.

They need to win both games and hope other results fall their way in order to take the highly-sought fifth spot.

Last weekend’s clash against Portland notched up win number nine for the season to date, kicking 22.19.151 to Portland’s 3.3.21.

Christian Koroneos, Brody Mahoney, Henry Robertson and Jesse Williamson were all effective in front of goal, kicking three each.

Other contributors to the scoreboard included Sam Lucas and Luke Smith with two each, Ben Berry, Oliver Darcy, Jack Hammond, Joshua Hickey, Matthew Kemp and Thomas Spokes.

Among the best players were Sam Thow, Joe Hutt, Thomas Spokes, Matthew Kemp, Jack Hammond and Henry Robertson.

Cobden’s reserves now sit on top of the ladder, a game clear of their nearest rivals South Warrnambool.

The team dominated Portland last weekend, kicking 31.14.200 while the Tigers were scoreless for the day.

Joshua Worboys kicked an impressive seven goals while Michael Koroneos added five and both Nicholas Kemp and Noah Sinnott kicked four each.

Tully Darcy (3), Louis Darcy, Harrison Herschell and Blake Mottram (two each), Luke Hickey and Tyler Humphrey were also contributors.

Among the best players were Noah Sinnott, Sam Darcy, Tyler Humphrey, Harrison Herschell, Joshua Worboys and Angus Molan.

Cobden’s netballers had a rewarding day on the courts, winning six of the eight games played.

Open – Cobden defeated Portland 69-44. Best players: Alicia Blain, Jessica McGlade and Jaymie Finch.

Division one – Cobden defeated Portland 45-40. Best: Matilda Darcy, Jessica Bourchier and Ally Jeffery.

Division two – Portland defeated Cobden 33-32. Best: Anna Hinkley, Eisha Howard and Hannah Justin.

Division three – Cobden defeated Portland 36-24. Best: Maggie Conheady, Kayla Hunter and Charlotte Bennett.

17 and under – Cobden defeated Portland 35-29. Best: Ruby Darcy, Claire Blain and Matilda Darcy.

15 and under – Cobden defeated Portland 20-17. Best: Lila Bennett, Sarah Bridges and Tatum Courtney.

15 and under reserves - Portland defeated Cobden 36-5. Best: Sophie Halliday, Jessica MacDonald and Emma Bonner.

13 and under – Cobden defeated Portland 22-21. Best: Stephanie Fleming, Zaya Howard and Grace Hester.
