Bombers go down by two goals
COBDEN went down to Portland by 12 points in Saturday’s round nine Hampden League senior match.
Down by 12 points at three-quarter time, Portland kicked four goals to none in the final quarter to record an 8.2.50 to 5.8.38 win at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve.
Angus Uwland, Tully Darcy, Matthew Kemp, Paul Pekin, Lachie Davis and Jordan Fowler were the Bombers best in the loss, with Michael Koroneos the only multiple goal kicker with two.
The reserves match saw Cobden record a 7.12.54 to 2.4.16 win.
Best for the Bombers in the win were Noah Sinnott, Edward Delaney and Ash Rosolin, with Thomas Roberts kicking three goals.
In the under 18s, Portland scored a 7.9.51 to 2.6.18 win.
Micah Darcy, Leonard Walsh, Noah Bignell and Hayden Chamberlain were Bombers best, with Walsh and Jasper Fraser kicking a goal each.
In the under 16s at Portland on Sunday, the home team had a big 114 point win, 20.13.133 to 3.1.19.
Fred Dean, Ace Roberts, Ryan Bailey were best for Cobden, with Dean, Bailey and Aaron Fleming kicking a goal each.
Cobden scored a strong 13.14.92 to 0.3.3 win in the under 14 football.
Clem Walsh, Fletcher White and Charlie Dunn were best for the Bombers, with Dunn kicking four goals, Ryan Bailey three and Walsh two.
In the under 12s, Portland scored a 6.4.40 to 3.1.19 win.
Nash Kent kicked two goals for Cobden with Quinn Pekin kicking one.

The Open netball also saw Cobden register a convincing 66-25 win.
“We were pretty surprised considering the conditions to be able to score that amount of volume, we were really impressed with the girls efforts,” Cobden coach Nadine McNamara said.
Cobden got out to a 15-6 lead at quarter time and increased the margin at each change.
“We continued to build through each quarter, which was really pleasing.
“I felt through previous games we may have had a stronger quarter and then we backed off in another quarter, but on Saturday we built on our lead throughout each quarter by about 10 or so, which was really pleasing to see.”
Jess Bouchier shot 28 goals and Emily Finch 38, with the pair named as Cobden’s best.
“Jess and Emily combined really well,” McNamara said.
“We’ve been doing a lot of work over recent weeks to try and create space to feed our goalers, and I thought they combined really well to give good options to our mid-courters and they shot extremely well.”
Grace Taylor was also named in the best for the Bombers.
“Grace has probably been in our best every week, she’s been such a consistent performer for us this season.
“She played a full game in centre and continues to build on her maturity and experience, she’s taking on feedback and implementing it throughout the game, she’s been a really great contributor for us so far.”
This week Cobden face a big challenge in undefeated ladder leader South Warrnambool.
“It’s a big game this weekend, we’re really excited to see where we sit, we know that South Warrnambool have been really consistent performers, they’ve been dominant this year.
“Although we feel like we’ve improved in the past nine rounds (since the two teams first met in round one) and seen lots of growth from our players, this time around hopefully we’re a little bit more prepared and we’re keen to see where we sit.”
Cobden also got the points in division one with a 50-25 win.
Hannah Anderson, Hannah Justin and Tilly Dent were best for the Bombers, with Steph Mahony shooting 40 goals.
The division two game saw a 33-29 win to Cobden.
Eisha Howard, Maddison Clifford and Sarah Bridges were the Bombers best, with Howard shooting 16 goals.
In division three, Cobden had a tight 37-36 win.
Playing her 100th senior game for the Bombers, Courtney Gatens was best, along with Tonya Spokes and Eisha Howard.
Howard led the scoring with 15 goals.
The 17 and under game saw Portland have a 33-24 win.
Martha Andrew, Matilda Narik and Hannah Robertson were best for Cobden, with Marley Howard shooting 11 goals.
There was no game for Cobden’s 17 and under reserves.
The 15 and under netball saw Portland score a 47-24 win.
Zaya Howard, Stephanie Fleming and Maddison Fisher were best for Cobden, with Charlotte Dean shooting 16 goals.
Cobden won the 15 and under reserves 21-17.
Emma Bonner, Bridie Roberts and Sienna Anderson were best for the Bombers, with Bonner scoring 21 goals.
The 13 and under netball saw a 34-11 win to Cobden.
Sienna Merrett, Harpah Baxter and Charlotte Robertson were best for the Bombers, with Zahlia Hill shooting 24 goals.
Cobden scored a 20-3 win in the 13 and under reserves netball.
Nardia Ferrari, Ruby Glennen and Charlotte Phillips were best for the junior Bombers, with Nardia Ferrari shooting 12 goals.
