Bombers in shock loss
ROUND four of Hampden League produced some shock upsets, including Cobden’s loss to North Warrnambool at Bushfield Oval.

ROUND four of Hampden League produced some shock upsets, including Cobden’s loss to North Warrnambool at Bushfield Oval.
Reflecting on last weekend’s game, Bombers coach Dan Casey struggled to find the reasons behind the 19-point loss, saying his team was “just really, really flat.”
“I honestly was a little shocked by the result and can’t really explain what happened on the day – the boys were all just really flat and any changes that we made just had very little effect,” he said.
“I’ve honestly never seen them play like that; we trained well and prepared well.
“We did have nine players out but I thought we’d covered that pretty well; the blokes who stepped up had been playing really well in the reserves.”
With the bye this weekend, the Bombers will put in a big training session and look to re-group before the following week’s clash with neighbours, Camperdown, who will be coming off a win over Warrnambool last Saturday.
“Camperdown can never be under-estimated and after our performance last weekend we really need to learn from that and move forward,” Casey said.
“Camperdown will be hungry for another win and we’ll need to get back to our best and re-set.
“I think our supporters were also shocked by our performance last weekend; but we will learn and lift.”
Final scores last weekend were Cobden 10.12.72 to North Warrnambool 13.13.91.
Best players for the Bombers were Grady Rooke, Paul Pekin, Jesse Williamson, Luke Smith, Jordan Fowler and Henry Robertson.
Pekin and Williamson each kicked three goals while other contributors on the board were Martin Angus, Ashley Rosolin, Luke Smith and Rhys Unwin.
Earlier in the day, the Bombers’ reserves put on a great display of team-work to finish big winners over North, 19.16.130 to 0.7.7.

Goals went to Harry Darcy (3), Joe Hutt (3), James McLeod (3), Thomas Darcy (2), Tully Darcy (2), Bradley Gillingham (2), Oliver Darcy, Brenton Flemming, Brady Green and Tom Mahony.
Cobden’s under 18.5s went down by just two points, 5.11.41 to 6.7.43.
Lachlan Herschell, Angus Molan, Blake Mottram, Jonty Robertson, Eli Dwyer and Thomas Roberts were among the best for the Bombers.
