COBDEN’S open netball side completed an unbeaten start to the first half of the Hampden league season after downing arch rival Camperdown on Saturday.

The Bombers extended its winning run to nine games with a dominant opening term paving the way for victory.

They outscored the Magpies 14-6 to hold an eight goal advantage at quarter time, before Camperdown reduced the margin to six at the main break.

Cobden then pushed clear in the third quarter, with 12 goals to 10 re-establishing its eight goal buffer.

The Bombers finished the match strongly, adding 14 goals to Camperdown’s 10 in the last quarter en route to a 52-40 win.

Jess Wheadon continued her impressive season with another best on court performance, while Rebecca Dendle again showed continual improvement in her netball and was named in the best players.

Emily Finch also performed strongly in the attacking circle, shooting 27 goals while Molly Hutt finished with 25.

The triumph keeps them eight points clear on top of the ladder, with the Bombers set to face fourth placed Warrnambool at Cobden this Saturday.

In other results last weekend, division one recorded an impressive 49-21 victory as the side enters the second half of the year in third position with a 6-3 record.

Sophie Blain was named best on court, while Sarah Smith and Morgan Nelson (25 goals) also performed well.

The Bombers also recorded a win in division two, with the side holding on to score a 30-26 triumph, keeping themselves four points clear on top of the ladder.

Sarae Hickey, Kate Hallyburton and Tess Mounsey were the best players.

In division three, Cobden recorded a 32-26 win over the Magpies, with the team currently holding fifth position on the ladder.

Grace Dawson, Renae Sullivan and Matilda Mason were standouts in the win.

The 17 and under side registered the biggest win of the day, downing the Magpies 43-16 to add their second win of the season.

Alexandra Barker, Gabrielle Beames and Jessica Anderson were the side’s best players.

The 15 and under team sits a win outside the top five after it was defeated by Camperdown 29-24.

Lara Taylor was best on court, while Jess Bouchier and Ruby Cain also performed well.

And the 13 and under side kept themselves in touch with the top five after it capped off a strong day for the club with a 23-15 victory.

Jessica Walsh was named the Bombers best in the victory.
